Biography

Dr. Rainer Strohmenger is a Managing Partner of Wellington Partners and leads its life science investing. He holds a doctorate in medicine and an MSc in economics, both from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, where he worked as a medical researcher in cardiovascular physiology and as a health economics researcher, and he trained at the MIT Entrepreneurship Center in Boston. He joined Wellington Partners in 1997 and became Managing Partner in December 2000. The firm credits him with more than 25 investments including Actelion, Immatics, Definiens, eGenesis, Oxford Immunotec, Amboss and iOmx, and with 6 IPOs and 8 trade sales, among them acquisitions by Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, Alcon, Roche, AstraZeneca and Perkin Elmer. He represents the firm on the VC Council of Invest Europe and is a member of the Senate of the German Association of Small and Medium-sized Businesses (BVMW); Wellington does not publish an individual portfolio board seat list for him.
