Founded by brothers Brian and Kevin McLoughlin, who combine long careers in fintech venture capital and insurance investment banking, the firm raised capital in 2018 and 2019 from strategic investors including some of the world's largest insurers, brokers and asset managers, among them CNA Financial and NN Group, with a $75 million first close announced in July 2018. From offices in Santa Monica and London it invests across North America and Europe, typically at Series A with cheques of roughly $3 million to $4 million, in a broad array of areas related to insurance and financial services, including benefits, retirement and asset management infrastructure, with a growing focus on applying AI to transform customer experience and employee productivity. Portfolio companies include Akur8, Bold Penguin, Corvus, CyberCube, Matic, Openly and Unqork, and its MTech Elevate program pairs founders with experienced industry mentors.
Travelers completed its $435 million acquisition of MTech portfolio company Corvus Insurance, a cyber insurance MGA, in January 2024.
