MetaProp

MetaProp is a New York venture capital firm founded in 2015 that invests at the intersection of real estate and technology. The firm describes itself as the world's most active investment firm focused on the built world, backing innovations that finance, insure, design, manage, measure, and power real estate across asset classes. It has made more than 150 investments in proptech companies since inception, concentrating on early stage rounds through funds such as MetaProp Ventures III, a 100 million dollar vehicle closed in 2021 that the firm called the largest global proptech seed fund of its kind. MetaProp's model ties startups to the industry they serve. Its limited partners include strategic real estate owners and operators representing more than 20 billion square feet of property worldwide, giving portfolio companies pilot sites, distribution, and customer relationships, and its Innovation Services platform makes hundreds of industry introductions for portfolio companies each year. The firm helped build the proptech category itself, launching the MetaProp Accelerator at Columbia University, NYC Real Estate Tech Week, and the Global PropTech Confidence Index, while co-founders Aaron Block and Zach Aarons wrote the category defining book PropTech 101. Early outcomes include Avail, acquired by Realtor.com operator Move in 2020, and a 2016 seed investment in Attentive, which reached a 2.2 billion dollar valuation in 2020.
