Biography

Machtelt Groothuis is a Founding Partner of Rubio Impact Ventures and chairs its investment committee. She studied economics in Rotterdam and holds an MBA from INSEAD. She began her career as a consultant at McKinsey & Company in Amsterdam and Beijing, then spent roughly a decade in mid-market buyout private equity at 3i and AlpInvest Partners. In 2014 she co-founded the firm with Willemijn Verloop, positioning it as the first independent impact fund in the Netherlands. She has described Rubio's three-step impact methodology, co-developed with the European Investment Fund, in which carried interest is fully tied to hitting impact targets alongside financial returns.
