Rubio is an Amsterdam-based early-stage and growth impact venture fund that backs European founders whose commercial model is inseparable from a measurable social or environmental outcome. It organises its portfolio around two themes it calls Planet Paradise (CO2 reduction, biodiversity, resource circularity, energy and agrifood) and People Power (education, health and wellbeing, income generation and inclusion). Its defining mechanic is the Aligned Impact Model: 100% of carried interest sits behind impact hurdles before financial ones, an arrangement first developed with the European Investment Fund in 2014. It writes tickets of EUR 0.5M to EUR 2.5M at seed and Series A for typically 10-20% ownership, reserving up to EUR 10M of follow-on per company.
2014
