Edwards, Ph.D. joined Samsara BioCapital as a Venture Partner in Fall 2022 and the firm states he has over 28 years of experience in drug discovery across multiple therapeutic disciplines. He spent 22 years at Janssen Research & Development, most recently as Vice President and Global Head, In Silico Discovery & External Innovation, and before that as Vice President and US Regional Head, Discovery Chemistry. From 1999 to 2014 he led Immunology medicinal chemistry groups at J&J/Janssen, working on targets including cathepsin S, histamine H4 and LTA4H. He began his pharmaceutical industry career at Ligand Pharmaceuticals. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and his B.S. from Harvey Mudd College, and performed post-doctoral studies at Emory University.
