Biography

Israel Ruiz is President and General Partner of Engine Ventures, a role he assumed in 2023. He has been involved with the firm since its founding, leading its launch from MIT in 2016 while serving as MIT's Executive Vice President and Treasurer, a post he held from 2011 to 2020 after becoming Vice President for Finance in 2007. At MIT he was also a trustee and a member of the executive and endowment committees, and he chaired The Engine's board of directors. He focuses on deal structuring and works with founders and boards of scaling companies in foundational industries, climate, human health, and advanced systems. He has served on the boards of Moderna, Fortive, Aura Biosciences, and FM Global, and currently sits on the board of portfolio company Superlight. He holds a master's degree from MIT Sloan and an engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
