Biography

Doug Russell has served as Managing Partner and Head of MassMutual Ventures since the unit was formed in July 2014. He joined MassMutual in 2007 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the Retirement Income business unit, and from 2009 through 2016 was the company's Senior Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development. His firm bio states close to 40 years of global investment, operating and finance experience in financial services. In earlier MassMutual Ventures press releases his title was given as Managing Director and Head of MassMutual Ventures; the firm's current team page gives it as Managing Partner & Head of MassMutual Ventures (MMV). Global Corporate Venturing reported in February 2025 that oversight of the firm's Europe and Asia-Pacific activity moved to him after the two regional managing partners left. He holds a BA in economics from Brown University and an MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
