Space Capital is a New York based seed stage venture firm that invests exclusively in the space economy. Founded in 2012 by Chad Anderson and rebranded from the Space Angels network in 2020, the firm organizes the market into three technology layers, Infrastructure, Distribution, and Applications, and concentrates on three stacks it believes follow the trajectory of GPS: positioning, geospatial intelligence, and satellite communications. Its core argument, the GPS Playbook, holds that a government built space asset becomes a platform for trillions of dollars of commercial value once entrepreneurs build distribution and applications on top of it, and the firm's GPS, GEOINT, and SatCom playbooks are used by financial firms and government agencies. Space Capital states over $1 billion in assets under management across four institutional funds, and launched Space Capital IV in March 2026. The portfolio spans 64 companies including SpaceX, Rocket Lab, Planet, ICEYE, Impulse Space, Varda, and Muon Space. Since 2017 the firm has published Space IQ, a quarterly report on private investment in the space economy cited by Morgan Stanley, Citi, NASA, ESA, and the US Department of Defense, giving it an unusually public research footprint for a fund of its size.
Portfolio company Rocket Lab became publicly traded on Nasdaq as RKLB through its merger with Vector Acquisition Corporation in August 2021.
