Closed Loop Partners is built around the idea that the circular economy, which designs out waste, keeps products and materials in circulation and regenerates natural systems, is both an environmental necessity and a large investment opportunity. Founded in New York in 2014 by Ron Gonen, the platform combines an investment firm, an innovation center and an operating group. Closed Loop Capital Management houses the investment strategies. The Closed Loop Ventures Group is the early stage vehicle, providing venture capital to companies advancing circular solutions across packaging, food systems, fashion, supply chains and materials science. A buyout private equity strategy, anchored by the Closed Loop Leadership Fund, acquires and scales established circular economy businesses. A catalytic capital and private credit strategy, which grew out of the firm's original recycling infrastructure funds, finances recycling facilities, materials recovery and end market development projects. The Center for the Circular Economy conducts research and runs multi stakeholder collaborations such as the NextGen Consortium with major consumer brands, while Closed Loop Builders operates companies including Circular Services, described by the firm as the largest privately held recycling and composting company in the United States. Across its vehicles the firm reports keeping billions of dollars worth of plastics, packaging, organics, textiles and electronics in circulation.
Compost processor Atlas Organics, an early Closed Loop Ventures investment, was acquired by Generate Capital in a January 2022 majority-stake deal reported as a full exit for its early investors.
