Stuart Moldaw co-founded U.S. Venture Partners in Menlo Park in 1981 after a retail career that began at a Massachusetts department store and included founding Country Casuals, Pic-A-Dilly and the Athletic Shoe Factory. He founded Ross Dress for Less in 1982 and served as Chairman of its board from August 1982 to March 1993, remaining a director and Chairman Emeritus afterwards. He was also a founding investor in The Gymboree Corporation and served as its Chairman Emeritus and, in 2000, as its chief executive. He died on May 24, 2008 at the age of 81.
