Biography

Roy Bahat came to venture capital from media and gaming operations, not finance - a Harvard-educated Rhodes Scholar who spent five years running IGN Entertainment before chairing OUYA, the crowdfunded game console startup. He launched Bloomberg Beta in 2013 with a distinctly unconventional structure for a corporate-backed fund: full transparency, with the firm's entire operating manual published openly on GitHub, and a flat decision-making model where any of the firm's three partners can independently approve a deal. Bahat has been explicit that he measures success less by raw financial return and more by founder outcomes - he cites 93 founders who've become millionaires from Bloomberg Beta's backing as his proudest metric - and under his leadership the firm has grown from a single $75 million fund to $450 million while staying capitalized entirely by Bloomberg L.P.
