Marc Andreessen co-created Mosaic, the graphical web browser that made the early internet accessible to ordinary people, while still a student at the University of Illinois. He went on to co-found Netscape, whose 1995 IPO is widely credited with igniting the dot-com boom, before AOL acquired the company for $4.2 billion in 1999. After a second exit - selling Opsware to Hewlett-Packard for $1.6 billion in 2007 - Andreessen co-founded Andreessen Horowitz in 2009, building it into one of the largest venture capital firms in the world. He sits on the board of Meta Platforms and has backed category-defining companies including Airbnb, Coinbase, and GitHub.
