Biography

David Tisch, grandson of Loews Corporation co-founder Laurence Tisch, co-founded BoxGroup in 2007 with Adam Rothenberg, running it initially alongside his role as the first Managing Director of Techstars NYC before leaving in 2012 to focus on BoxGroup full-time. The firm built its reputation on catching companies before anyone else believed in them - most famously becoming the first investor in Plaid after its founder turned down a job offer at BoxGroup to start the company instead, and backing Flatiron Health years before Roche acquired it for $1.9 billion in 2018. Tisch has described BoxGroup's core philosophy as being comfortable with genuine early-stage uncertainty - vision and raw product over traction - and has helped grow the firm into one of New York's most prolific seed investors, with more than 600 investments including Warby Parker, Ramp, Airtable, Glossier, and ClassPass.
