After a Harvard degree in Chemistry & Physics, a research stint at ImClone Systems, and a PhD in Biology from MIT followed by a Rockefeller University postdoc, he joined OrbiMed's predecessor firm in 1995 and became a founding General Partner when OrbiMed Advisors formally split off in 1998. He now leads OrbiMed's private equity team, one of three arms (alongside public equity and private credit) that let the firm fund healthcare companies from seed through IPO and beyond within a single specialist platform - a structure widely viewed in biotech as a genuine stamp of validation, with many companies specifically seeking OrbiMed's backing to help secure Nasdaq or HKEX listings. Gordon has appeared on the Forbes Midas List multiple times, founded and invested in numerous biotechnology companies, and served on both public and private company boards throughout his career.
