Joshua Kushner founded Thrive Capital in 2009 at just 24 years old, initially funding it himself before raising outside capital from investors including Princeton University, the Wellcome Trust, and Peter Thiel. Thrive has stayed deliberately small in deal volume - funding only 8 to 12 new companies most years - while making some of the earliest bets on Instagram, and more recently OpenAI, a concentrated approach that has made it one of the highest-returning firms of its size.
