Golden Ventures is a seed-stage venture firm investing at pre-seed, seed and seed extension, and into rounds bridging to Series A. It invests across North America with a core Canadian focus on Toronto, Kitchener/Waterloo, Montreal, Vancouver and the Prairie provinces, and is active in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, Los Angeles and Boston. The firm states it is sector and business model agnostic but skews toward software-differentiated solutions, and its site lists its sector as Sector Agnostic. It targets initial commitments of $500K to $2.5M for 8 to 15 percent ownership, and models 25 to 30 core investments per fund over three to four years, roughly eight new core investments a year. The firm describes itself as one of the first seed-stage micro-VC funds, started in 2011 on the view that early stage founders in North America, and especially in Canada, were underserved by financing options. It runs a post-investment team covering talent, platform and operations alongside the investment team.
