East Ventures

East Ventures was founded in 2009 by Willson Cuaca, Batara Eto, and Taiga Matsuyama, making it one of the first venture capital firms operating in Indonesia at a time when, in the founders' own words, essentially no one believed in the country's consumer internet potential. That early, uncontested conviction let the firm become the seed investor behind several of Southeast Asia's largest tech companies, most famously Tokopedia, which later merged with Gojek to form GoTo and completed one of Indonesia's largest-ever public listings in 2022. East Ventures has since transformed into a multi-asset platform spanning seed through growth stage across Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the US, investing in more than 300 companies and repeatedly ranked the most active investor in Southeast Asia by CB Insights, Preqin, and Crunchbase.
