Bain Capital Ventures

Bain Capital Ventures was formed in 2001 as the dedicated venture capital arm of Bain Capital, the private investment firm Mitt Romney helped launch in 1984 as a spinoff from the consulting firm Bain & Company. That consulting DNA shaped BCV's approach: partner Ajay Agarwal, who joined in 2003, led the firm's first institutional round in Kiva Systems in 2004 - a warehouse robotics startup founded on the then-contrarian bet that e-commerce fulfillment costs would eventually balloon out of control. Amazon acquired Kiva in 2012, rebranding it Amazon Robotics; its systems now power more than 2,000 fulfillment centers worldwide. BCV has since backed DocuSign, LinkedIn, Twilio, and Redis across enterprise software, fintech, and infrastructure.
