At One Ventures

At One Ventures is a San Francisco climate deep tech firm founded in 2019 by Tom Chi, a founding member of Google X, together with Laurie Menoud, who previously co-led venture capital for BASF in North America, and Helen Lin. The firm invests at seed and Series A in companies whose technology it believes can beat incumbents on unit economics while dramatically reducing planetary footprint, a pairing it calls its Triad: disruptive deep tech, radically better unit economics, and a path toward humanity becoming a net positive to nature. Its scope runs across air, water, soil, and biodiversity, touching energy, materials, agriculture, transportation, and buildings. Fund I closed at $150 million in October 2021, and in October 2023 the firm announced a $375 million Fund II, with the firm stating it manages $525 million across the two funds. By the Fund II announcement it had invested in 35 startups, including battery materials recycler Ascend Elements, de-extinction company Colossal Biosciences, and biodegradable packaging maker Cruz Foam. The team is unusually technical for a venture firm, with partners and operators drawn from the physical sciences, engineering, and manufacturing scale-up, and it supports portfolio companies with in-house help on industrialization, talent, and intellectual property strategy. No portfolio company has yet produced a confirmed realized public exit.
