Biography

Sunil Dhaliwal has spent more than 25 years investing in technical infrastructure, starting at Battery Ventures in 1998 after two years in technology banking at Alex. Brown & Sons following his 1996 Georgetown graduation. At Battery he spent over 14 years backing early-stage companies through multiple market cycles, including a formative early bet on Splunk, before leaving in 2012 to found Amplify Partners on a single conviction: that technical founders deserved an investor who understood their problem space as deeply as they did. His first fund raised just $40 million after 18 months of on-and-off fundraising; Amplify has since grown into a $900 million platform whose portfolio includes Datadog and Fastly, both public since 2019. Dhaliwal has said his instinct for backing builders in unfashionable technical corners traces back to watching his own father leave a corporate engineering job to start a company when Dhaliwal was still in grade school.
