Reid Dennis founded Institutional Venture Partners in 1980, six years after starting Institutional Venture Associates with backing from American Express, the Ford Foundation and others. He had invested in early stage companies as an individual since 1952, and spent 21 years in venture capital roles at Fireman's Fund Insurance Company and American Express Company. He served as past Chairman and President of the National Venture Capital Association and past President of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists, and received the NVCA Lifetime Achievement Award in April 2000. Born May 16, 1926, he died on March 14, 2024, at the age of 97.
