He co-founded the firm in 2005 as Sequoia Capital China, alongside Zhang Fan, who left in 2009. Before founding the firm he graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in applied mathematics in 1989 and from the Yale School of Management in 1992, worked at Citibank in the United States, moved to Hong Kong as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers in 1994, and joined Deutsche Bank as director of China capital markets in 1996.
