Biography

Mike Velings is the co-founder and CEO of Aqua-Spark, an investment fund based in the Netherlands that was the first fund dedicated to sustainable aquaculture. He co-founded the firm in 2013 with Amy Novogratz, and it made its first investments in 2015; by its tenth anniversary the fund reported close to 500 million euros in assets under management across a portfolio of 28 companies. A lifelong entrepreneur, he earlier co-founded Connexie, which helped build a professional employment industry in the Netherlands, and he serves on Conservation International's Leadership Council. His 2016 TED talk, The case for fish farming, made the argument for aquaculture as a means of feeding a growing population responsibly.
