Mark Levin co-founded Third Rock Ventures in 2007 with Bob Tepper and Kevin Starr, and the firm's site now lists him as Retired Founding Partner, saying he focused on the formation, development and strategic governance of its portfolio companies. He met his co-founders while serving as chief executive officer of Millennium Pharmaceuticals, which he co-founded in 1993 and which was later acquired by Takeda Oncology. Earlier he co-founded the life sciences effort of the Mayfield Fund and was founding chief executive officer of Cell Genesys, Tularik, Focal and StemCells, after starting his career as a process engineer at Eli Lilly and Genentech. He served as Chairman of the Voyager Therapeutics board from June 2013 until 2022 and on the Foundation Medicine board from 2010 to June 2014, and he holds a B.S. and an M.S. in chemical and biochemical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis.
