Biography

Ilya Sukhar studied computer science and operations research at Cornell before co-founding Parse in 2011, a mobile backend infrastructure platform that Facebook acquired for approximately $100 million in 2013 - he went on to lead Facebook's Developer Products team before fully transitioning out. After a stint as a part-time partner at Y Combinator, he joined Matrix Partners as a General Partner in 2016, where he concentrates on AI, infrastructure, and developer tools. His angel portfolio, built since 2014, includes early stakes in Scale AI and Airtable, and his Matrix investments include Fivetran, Flock Safety, Mashgin, and Parabola - the kind of infrastructure-first bets that reflect his own path as a founder-engineer who understood what technical teams needed before most investors did.
