Dan Gregory co-founded Greylock in 1965 with Bill Elfers, with Charlie Waite joining roughly six months to a year later. He had not worked in venture capital before Greylock, having spent his career in the investment management of equities business at John P. Chase. He served on the board of the National Venture Capital Association for seven years, the last two in top leadership roles, and served for about a year as secretary of economic affairs under Massachusetts Governor William F. Weld. He died on January 6, 2011 at age 81.
