View Live Interactive Profile →Ann Miura-Ko co-founded Floodgate with Mike Maples Jr. in 2008, after an electrical engineering degree from Yale, PhD work at Stanford, and stints at Charles River Ventures and McKinsey. Her own account of the firm's founding is the most memorable thing about it: she was told she was 'insane' to start a fund in the middle of the financial crisis, gave birth to her second child, defended her PhD six weeks later, and was already on her way to making her first investment in TaskRabbit. Two years later she made the seed bet in Zimride that became Lyft, one of the best-known pre-seed checks in venture capital. She co-founded All Raise in 2018 and has spent her career at the earliest possible stage, where a firm's only real edge is conviction about people before there is anything else to evaluate.
