Mitsubishi UFJ Capital Co., Ltd.

Mitsubishi UFJ Capital is the venture capital company of the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, established in 1974 and headquartered in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, with branch offices in Osaka and Nagoya. Its shareholders are MUFG Bank, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking and other Mitsubishi group and Japanese financial and industrial companies, per the firm's own 会社概要 page. The firm runs two parallel fund lines and states the mandate of each in its joint fund announcements with MUFG Bank. Its numbered general funds state an investment target of 全般（除くライフサイエンス分野）, that is, all sectors other than life sciences: this applies to 三菱UFJキャピタル9号投資事業有限責任組合 (MUC-9, 30.0 billion yen, announced April 2023) and 三菱UFJキャピタル10号投資事業有限責任組合 (MUC-10, 30.0 billion yen, announced May 2025). Its life science funds state an investment target of 創薬、創薬基盤、再生医療、医療機器などを中心としたライフサイエンス分野, that is, life sciences centred on drug discovery, drug discovery platforms, regenerative medicine and medical devices: this applies to 三菱UFJライフサイエンス4号投資事業有限責任組合 (LS-4, 20.0 billion yen, announced April 2023). In the May 2025 MUC-10 announcement the firm says it will also work on secondary transactions and on diversifying exits (セカンダリー取引やExitの多様化にも挑戦していく). The firm is an approved 事業プロモーター (business promoter) unit of the Japan Science and Technology Agency's START programme for creating new industries from universities; JST's page for the unit states that the unit specialises within life sciences in drug discovery (ライフサイエンス（LS）分野のうち創薬分野に特化します), covers the whole of Japan, and has since 2017 deployed 30.0 billion yen across the first, second and third Mitsubishi UFJ Life Science funds, branded MUFGメディカルファンド. The firm organises its investment staff into four numbered investment departments (投資第一部 to 投資第四部), a life science department (ライフサイエンス部), a strategic research department (戦略調査部), and the Osaka and Nagoya branch offices.
