Animoca Brands is primarily an OPERATING COMPANY that also invests, not a venture firm. Its own site describes it as "a global digital assets leader building and investing in impactful technologies and ecosystems to reimagine future economies" and as "an active ecosystem architect" that moves "beyond traditional investment to build and accelerate consumer and institutional projects". It builds and operates products and platforms in its own right, including The Sandbox, Moca Network, Open Campus, Anichess, NUVA, Anchorpoint Financial and Minds by Animoca Brands, and it reported US$280 million of bookings and US$246 million of operating expenses for the twelve months ended 31 December 2023. Alongside that operating business it runs one of the larger investment programmes in its sector, stated on its own investment overview page as "600+ high-growth portfolio companies across 20+ verticals" grouped under five headings: Web2, Infrastructure, Gaming, RWA and Culture. Its portfolio page shows that it holds limited partnership interests in other funds as well as direct company positions. Investing is carried out under named vehicles as well as by the parent: the company's own leadership page describes Robby Yung as "CEO of investments" and "partner at Animoca Capital", and a 2024 PR Newswire release describes a "strategic investment from Animoca Capital". A separate site, animoca.ventures, describes itself in its page metadata as "The venture investment arm of Animoca Brands". The company's own boilerplate describes the portfolio as "over 600 companies and altcoin assets", so a substantial part of it is token positions rather than equity.
