Biography

Rushad Nanavatty is Managing Director of Third Derivative, the climate tech accelerator founded by RMI and New Energy Nexus. He is carried on RMI's own staff directory as Managing Director on the Third Derivative team, located in Amsterdam, which places him as an employee of the operating parent rather than of a separate D3 entity. RMI announced his appointment on 22 November 2022, describing him as a seasoned RMI leader and former climate tech entrepreneur. Within RMI he established the Global Cooling Prize, an innovation competition for residential cooling, worked with the Energy Web Foundation on blockchain applications for the energy sector, and oversaw RMI's Urban Transformation programme. Before RMI he was founding chief operating officer of WeGen Energy, which developed off-grid solutions and virtual power plants in the Philippines and Vietnam, and spent six years at McKinsey & Company in the sustainability, infrastructure and private equity practices. He holds an MS in International Relations and International Economics from Johns Hopkins SAIS and a BS in Economics and Philosophy from St. Stephens College, University of Delhi. No board seat and no individually attributed investment could be sourced for him.
