Roelof Botha joined Sequoia Capital as a partner in January 2003 after holding various positions at PayPal from 2000 to 2003, including Chief Financial Officer. Sequoia's own writing credits him with leading partnerships with Eventbrite, Evernote, Instagram, Square, Tumblr, YouTube and Unity. He holds a B.S. in actuarial science, economics and statistics from the University of Cape Town and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He served as Sequoia's senior steward from mid-2022 until November 2025 and sits on the boards of SpaceX, Block, Ethos, MongoDB, Unity and Natera.
