Biography

Mike Mompi was born to a Ghanaian father and Slovak mother and raised in California, earning degrees in Economics and Communications from UC Davis before a career spanning entrepreneurship, public equity investing, and impact finance across four continents. He co-founded a fintech startup in London and helped build ClearlySo, a UK impact investment bank that raised more than $250 million for socially responsible businesses, before co-founding Enza Capital in Nairobi in 2019. Mompi built the firm around a specific thesis - back technology companies that 'organize the offline, digitize key industries, and redefine African life' - and introduced a genuinely distinctive Founder Partner Program in 2023 that allocates 10% of Enza Capital's own ownership to the founders it backs, aiming to align incentives beyond the traditional investor-founder relationship. Under his leadership, Enza has invested in more than 30 companies across eight African markets, spanning fintech, logistics, healthcare, human capital, and climate-smart sectors.
