Jim Swartz co-founded Accel with Arthur Patterson in 1983, and Accel's team page now lists him as Emeritus. Before Accel he was a vice president at Citicorp Venture Capital and in 1978 became a founding general partner of Adler & Company. Accel's own company pages name him as the partner on PictureTel, Polycom, Remedy Corporation, Quokka Sports and Riverbed Technology, and the firm states he was a lead director of more than 50 companies. He was chairman of the National Venture Capital Association and received its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
