Biography

Jeff Clavier immigrated to the U.S. in 2000 after serving as CTO of a French fintech startup acquired by Reuters, joining Reuters' own $450 million corporate venture fund as a general partner. In 2004 he left to found Uncork Capital, then called SoftTech VC, one of the first dedicated seed-stage venture firms in Silicon Valley - and in 2007, one of the first funds to be labeled 'micro-VC.' Clavier and the firm he built have backed Fitbit, Eventbrite, Postmates, and Poshmark, but SendGrid stands out: Uncork backed the email infrastructure company as a seed investor, watched it go public in 2017, and saw Twilio acquire it just two years later. Clavier has stepped back from day-to-day management, with Andy McLoughlin now leading the firm as Managing Partner.
