Biography

Hemant Taneja moved from Delhi, India to the U.S. as a teenager and went on to earn five degrees from MIT before dropping out of a PhD program to found his first company, Isovia, which he sold to JP Mobile. He joined General Catalyst as an entrepreneur-in-residence in 2002 and became CEO in 2021, architecting the firm's strategy around what he calls 'economies of unscale' - using AI to build platform companies aligned with long-term societal interests. He has led early investments in Stripe, Snap, Samsara, and Anthropic, and guided portfolio company Livongo through an $18.5 billion acquisition, the largest digital health deal of its era.
