He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, served as a captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Altos Ventures invests on behalf of institutional investors with charitable, educational or non-profit missions, and Kim has described the firm's work backing Korean companies including Coupang, Woowa Brothers and Viva Republica in interviews with The Korea Herald and Coral Capital. In 2021 he was named in SEC filings as part of the Altos group reporting more than ten percent beneficial ownership of Roblox Corporation.
