H. DuBose Montgomery founded Menlo Ventures in 1976 at age 27 and, by the firm's account, led investments in medical and information technology companies over roughly four decades there. Menlo credits him with investments including Asthmatx, EndoVascular Technologies, Entone, Frame Technology Corporation, Freightquote, Gilead Sciences, Infoseek, LSI Logic, Valid Logic Systems and VNUS Medical Technologies, and says he helped found four startups from their initial idea concepts. Before Menlo he did research at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, and he holds two issued patents and has been published in IEEE Proceedings. He earned three degrees from MIT and an M.B.A. with distinction from Harvard Business School, and Menlo Ventures now lists him as Founder & Partner Emeritus.
