Biography

Dan Levitan spent 15 years as a consumer-focused investment banker before co-founding Maveron, leading Starbucks' 1992 IPO as a managing director at Schroder Wertheim & Co. - the deal that formed his relationship with CEO Howard Schultz. The two co-founded Maveron together in 1998, built around a single conviction that has defined the firm ever since: invest only in consumer-facing brands and technology, never enterprise. Levitan's clearest proof point came in 2009, when he led a roughly $5 million Series A round in Zulily; by the time the ecommerce company went public in 2013 at a $4.6 billion valuation, Maveron's 22% stake was worth more than $1 billion. He was named to the Forbes Midas List in 2014, has sat on the boards of Allbirds, Trupanion, Pacaso, and Two Chairs, and remains the firm's most public face more than 25 years after co-founding it.
