She earned a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where her research on water resource planning and utility finance at the Environmental Finance Center grew into Valor Water Analytics, the utility analytics company she founded and led as CEO. Valor was acquired by Xylem in 2018, and Boyle then spent five years at Xylem as Vice President of Digital Product Development, scaling the software to utilities worldwide. She has chaired the California Nevada section of the American Water Works Association and now invests in early stage water companies at Burnt Island.
