In 2015, he left to found Precursor Ventures as a solo general partner, built specifically around backing first-time and underrepresented founders who often lack the traditional networks that open doors at bigger firms. Running an intentionally high-volume model of 75 to 100 investments per fund, Hudson backed The Athletic years before The New York Times acquired the sports media company for $525 million in 2022. Precursor has since raised five funds and grown past $250 million under management, with Hudson making all investment decisions himself.
