Biography

Amar Inamdar built more than 25 years of private sector experience as an investor, scientist, and entrepreneur across East Africa's emerging markets before managing a global investment portfolio at the International Finance Corporation. He became Managing Director of KawiSafi Ventures as the fund launched in 2017, leading it to a nearly $70 million close in 2019 through Acumen Capital Partners - the for-profit investment subsidiary of Acumen, the internationally recognized impact investing nonprofit that created and developed the fund. Inamdar has been outspoken about the need for greater transparency in Africa's energy sector, arguing that differentiated pools of patient, catalytic capital are essential as off-grid solar companies mature from early-stage grants into commercially scalable businesses, and he sits on the boards of several of KawiSafi's portfolio companies.
